Written about the house once visited by George Harrison just prior to The Beatles arrival in the U.S. in February 1964. George Harrison's sister Louise - then a U.S. resident of the home in Benton, Illinois - looked after George while he stayed at the house for several days prior to The Beatles' arrival and subsequent world domination later that same year.
"They don't know us over there" was George's quite inaccurate forewarning to his band mates upon returning to England. 30 years on, the house was slated for demolition until Lou stepped in with the Benton Chamber of Commerce's Historical Society to save it. The house became the Hard Day's Night bed & breakfast for a number of years before closing in 2009. It is also the same house which belonged to my good friend Dave Schultz's parents in the late 80s, and before a gig with Dave I once stopped by the house and strummed a guitar on the front steps of this home, blissfully unaware that George had been there, too, and had probably done the same, "all those years ago".
